Welcome to My World of Stories

Hello, and thank you for visiting! I am a proud Mexican American author living in Colorado, and I am thrilled to share my passion for storytelling with you. As a new author, I find joy in reading books to children and creating enchanting tales that celebrate diversity.

Every story I write is inspired by the vibrant memories of my own childhood. I cherish the feelings of wonder and imagination that come with being small, and I strive to capture that essence in my characters and narratives. Through my stories, I aim to inspire young readers to embrace their uniqueness and explore the beautiful tapestry of experiences that life offers.

Join me on this magical journey as we explore new worlds, meet incredible characters, and celebrate the joy of storytelling together!

About Me

Weaving stories that inspire

Judith E. Ritschard is an emerging children’s author whose debut work draws from her rich personal history and unique perspective. Born in Mexico, Judith experienced a significant shift in her early life when she moved to a small mountain town in Colorado. This journey has instilled in her a deep understanding of the immigrant experience-a narrative filled with fear, sacrifice, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.

Now residing in Carbondale, CO, Judith shares her home with her husband, two sons, and a spirited Jack Russel terrier. She believes in the power of storytelling to bridge divides and foster empathy, and she is passionate about sharing diverse narratives that illuminate our shared humanity. Through her writing, Judith aims to encourage young readers to embrace differences and build connections. A portion of the sales of all her books will be donated to charities that support immigrant women and children, furthering her commitment to making a positive impact in the community

What Inspired The Winter Flower?

As a child growing up in Colorado, I often found myself searching for stories that had characters that looked like me. In the 80s and 90s there were few, and it wasn’t until I was in tenth grade when I was assigned the book Bless Me Ultima, that I finally found characters that looked more like my family. I was so moved!

That significant lack of representation in literature was decades ago. But, when my oldest son turned four, I took him to our local public library to find a book on immigration that reflected my family’s journey. I discovered that the shelves were filled with books primarily focused on the experiences of immigrants arriving through Ellis Island, with little acknowledgment of the diverse narratives that shape our country today.

It was in that moment I decided I wanted to write the book that I wanted to read. I envisioned a book that not only showed the struggles and triumphs of the Mexican American experience but also celebrated the colorful images of my first home, Puerto Vallarta.

In a time when millions of immigrants contribute to the fabric of the United States, it is crucial for Latino children to see themselves represented in colorful, engaging pages.

I wrote this book not just for my son, but for all children who deserve to see their stories told.

I invite you to join me on this journey, as we explore the beauty of our heritage and the importance of representation in literature.

Thank you for being a part of this important conversation.
